Benagil Beach – Gateway to the Famous Sea Cave
Nestled along the southern coast of the Algarve, Benagil Beach is a small yet iconic spot known worldwide for its proximity to the stunning Benagil Sea Cave — a natural cathedral carved by the ocean with a sunlit opening in its ceiling.
Though the beach itself is relatively small, it offers golden sand, calm turquoise waters, and boat rentals, making it a perfect starting point for exploring the coast. From here, visitors can access the sea cave by kayak, paddleboard, or guided boat tour. Swimming to the cave is possible but not recommended due to changing tides and boat traffic.
The surrounding cliffs also offer panoramic views and are part of the scenic Seven Hanging Valleys Trail.
Highlights:
- Direct access to the Benagil Cave (by sea)
- Ideal for kayaking, SUP, and boat tours
- Scenic cliffs and hiking trails nearby
- Small café and seasonal lifeguards on site
Note: Arrive early during summer as the beach gets crowded and parking is limited.
