Santa Justa Elevator (Elevador de Santa Justa), Lisbon 

The Santa Justa Elevator, also known as the Elevador de Santa Justa, is one of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks. Completed in 1902 by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, a Portuguese engineer inspired by Gustave Eiffel, this striking neo-Gothic iron structure connects the Baixa district with the higher Carmo Square (Largo do Carmo). 

Rising 45 meters (148 feet) above the street, the elevator offers visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of Lisbon, including the Rossio Square, the Tagus River, and the São Jorge Castle. The top platform features a viewing terrace accessible via a spiral staircase. 

The elevator operates both as a functional urban transport and a tourist attraction. Its beautifully detailed ironwork, geometric patterns, and historical charm make it a must-see for architecture enthusiasts and photographers alike.
