 Milreu Roman Ruins – A Glimpse into Roman Algarve 
Located just outside the town of Estoi in the Algarve, the Milreu Roman Ruins offer a fascinating look into life in southern Portugal during the Roman Empire. Dating back to the 1st century AD, the site features the remains of a luxurious Roman villa, including a bath complex, a temple, and agricultural facilities.

The villa was richly decorated with mosaics, particularly sea-themed ones, and had running water and private baths—an indication of the wealth and sophistication of its owners. Later, in the 4th century, the temple was converted into a Christian basilica, showing the transition from Roman paganism to Christianity.
